Born in Dorchester, MA on October 11, 1911, she was the daughter of Patrick and Margaret (Murphy) McGovern. She loved to travel and visited every continent and state (except South Dakota).
She was a member of the North End Senior Citizens and loved to play bingo. She was an avid Red Sox fan, and she enjoyed doing the New York Times crossword puzzles and cryptograms. Catherine also had a large doll collection and belonged to the New London Doll Club and, most recently, to the Wethersfield Charter Oak Doll Club.
She is survived by her two loving daughters and their spouses; Janet and John Rovaldi of East Hartford and FL, and Catherine and George Carbonell of East Hartford, 14 grandchildren and 16 (plus one more in June) great grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her eight siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 15 Maplewood Avenue, East Hartford.
Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
A period of visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass (8:30-9:30 a.m.) at the Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford.
