Marguerite was the daughter of Peter Cornelius Gallagher and Mary Ellen (Ferry) Gallagher. She had one brother who died in infancy and five sisters. She was born in Beaver Meadows and moved with her family to Luzerne sometime around 1906. She graduated from Luzerne High School, where she played basketball. She also graduated from the Wyoming Seminary Dean School of Business, and the Wurlitzer School of Music in Philadelphia. Before her marriage, she worked as a pianist in silent movie theaters. She married Joseph James Moran on July 7, 1926. Although they got married at Marguerite's family church, they eloped, not telling anyone they were getting married. Marguerite said it was because her sister Mary was engaged and planning to marry a few months later. She and Joseph had three daughters, Mary Therese, Katherine, and Eileen. After her marriage, she lived in Wyoming and Forty Fort, before eventually settling in Kingston. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her "Nanny". She continued to play the piano well into her ninety's, mostly at Christmas when she would play carols at family gatherings. She died just four days before her 100th birthday.
