Billie Cheryl Hickman-Baxter 58, a resident of Silver City, NM went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 17, 2009 after battling three different types of cancer for 8 years. She was born November 11, 1950 to Edward and Helen (Byrd) Hickman in Silver City, NM. Cheryl started playing music when she was 5 yrs old, and was soon on her way to become a very talented and well known musician as a pianist, singer and songwriter. Billie Cheryl played live music with many bands in the Grant County area; one being "Hot Ginger and Dynamite". One of her greatest accomplishments as a musician was writing a song called "Baby It's yours". This song became the title track of a Wynn Stewart album and was published by Capital Records. She was a devoted wife and mother. She stayed home to raise her children and continued her musical profession teaching piano. Billie Cheryl Baxter is loved and will be greatly missed and remembered by those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her loving husband of 26yrs., Dennis Baxter of the family home; two sons, Shane and Jason; brother, Ron Hickman. She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Helen Hickman. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 10:30am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Pastors Lynn Burkhart and Charlie Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Hickman, Chris Hickman, Richard Medina, Devin Medina, Stormy Rosson and Russell Sturgill.
