American Frontier Outlaw. Born in Kentucky during the Civil War, he fought for the Confederacy and served as a Captain in William Quantrill's Raiders. After the war he rode with Cole Younger, Jesse and Frank James, committing a series of robberies through out Kentucky and Tennessee. Five territory governors had set a price upon the head of Kit Dalton of $50,000 for his capture dead or alive, but he was never captured. He also rode as a member of outlaw Sam Bass' gang in Texas until Bass was shot and killed. After the 1882 Kentucky trials which Frank James and the remaining Dalton gang members were charged and proved innocent resulted in an agreement by the Government in which the slate was wiped clean, Kit Dalton returned to civil life. He made a profession of religion and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, when he died.
