Nazi German Dictator, Mass Murderer. He was the leader of the German Nazi Party and the dictator of Germany from 1933 until his suicidal death as Germany was in the throes of defeat in 1945. He rose from the bottom of society to conquer most of Europe during World War II. Riding on a wave of European fascism after World War I, he built a Fascist regime unparalleled for barbarism and terror. His rule resulted in the extermination of about six million Jews. On April 30, 1945, Hitler committed suicide with a Luger Pistol, and his bride of one day, Eva Braun, committed suicide by biting into a cyanide capsule. Their remains were cremated with diesel fuel in the Reich Chancellery garden above his bunker. The charred corpses were later discovered by the Russians. These remains were allegedly shipped to Moscow for tests that confirmed their identity. Other accounts said that the remains were autopsied in a pathology clinic in Buch, a suburb of Berlin. After the autopsies, Hitler, his wife, Eva Braun, and his propaganda leader, Joseph Goebbels, were allegedly buried in a series of locations, including Buch, Finow, and Rathenow, which were all in what became East Germany. In February of 1946, the remains were again moved to a Soviet Smersh facility in Magdeburg (Nos. 32 and 36). These remains were removed one final time in 1982; some accounts said that it was as early as 1970 by the request of Yuri Andropov, Secretary General of the USSR, from 1982 to 1984. Andropov, former KGB chief, fearing that Neo-Nazis might have discovered the location, had the graves opened. All remains, which were still in a state of decomposition, were ground up and put into a nearby Elbe River tributary. All of these details are in dispute, and there are many conflicting "facts" stated in a variety of sources.
