In 1957, Melvin bought a Sears & Roebuck house kit, and built it across from St. Peter's Church in Loganville. He moved in along with his mother whom he took care of until her death. He lived in and lovingly took care of his house until 2020 when his health mandated he needed more care. He first moved to Zimmerman Nursing home and when they closed, he moved to Casa de Oaks in Reedsburg.
Melvin was a faithful and giving member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Loganville, where after his retirement, he mowed the church cemetery for many years. He worked many jobs over his life ending with Phillip Do it Center and retiring from Gerber in 1989.
Melvin is survived by many relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and their spouses: Herbert (Elva), Arthur, Paul, Martin (Clara), Otto (Laureen), Edmund (Marie), Bill (Viola), and Erwin (Mary Ellen); numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11 AM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Loganville with Rev. Beth Voigt officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Loganville. Visitation will be held from 9 AM until the time of service at the church. Memorials may be made to Zor Shriners Children's Hospital or St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Loganville. The family would like to thank Casa de Oaks Staff and Agrace Hospice, especially Karla, for their compassionate and loving care.
