Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company B, 3rd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 25, 1861. He served until he was discharged due to disability at the Convalescent Camp in Alexandria, Virginia on Jan. 31, 1863. On September 4, 1863 he rejoined the Union war effort, being enrolled in the 34th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on that date. Mustered in as a Sergeant in Company D on October 6, 1863, he served through the end of the war, and was honorably discharged at Memphis, Tennessee on August 30, 1865.
