Terese was born in Houston, Texas, to William Eugene Smith and Lesley Joan Beam. She lived the first nine years of her life in Northwest Houston before her family moved to the Alief area in Southwest Houston. Terese graduated from Alief Hastings High School in 1984 and then went to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. In 1986 Terese joined the United States Air Force. After completing Basic Training at Lackland AFB at San Antonio, Texas, Terese completed tech school at Keesler AFB at Biloxi, Mississippi, and became an Air Trafic Controller. In October of 1986 Terese reported to Eglin AFB at Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. There she met and later married Robert Philip "Bob" Murdock. On February 12, 1988 Terese and Bob had a son, Michael Scott Murdock. In August, 1990 Terese was sent to Osan AFB in Korea. Her husband Bob was already in Korea at Kunsan AFB. Do to a medical condition their two-year-old son, Michael Scott, remained in the States with his maternal grandparents, Bill and Lesley Smith. Upon returning to the States, Terese, Bob and Michael headed for Tacoma, Washington, and McCord AFB. Terese was expecting their second child at this time. On December 24, 1991 complications arose in the pregnancy. Terese was rushed to Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA where she died at 12:00 midnight of septic shock. Her baby daughter also died. Terese and her infant daughter were returned to Houston, Texas, where they were buried with full military honors.
