Wife of Billy Sunday

Billy and "Ma" Sunday had a ranch in Hood River, Oregon. "Ma" maintained the ranch while Billy was out on his circuit preaching. He would periodically come to Hood River, where on occasion he would be asked to do a Sunday service at this church or that. About 2 miles from the Sunday ranch was the little Pine Grove Methodist Church. On one of his visits he was asked to perform the Sunday service, which he was more than willing to do. Like many evangelists of the time Billy Sunday could be long winded. It was "Ma" who tended to keep him under control. At this particular service which he preached on and on and on, "Ma" had finally had enough and spoke out, saying "Pa the beans are burning." The sermon ended quite abruptly.

The Sunday home is still in existence between the area known as Pine Grove and the small community of Odell in the middle of the Hood River Valley. It is located on Sunday Drive, named in their honor.
