NORFOLK - Bonita J. Altoveros, born Bonita Jane Meade, Sept. 16, 1947, was called home to stand by the Lord's side Thursday morning, Feb. 7, 2002, at 6:10 a.m. She will be remembered as a devout and loving wife, a wonderful mother, a caring grandmother and a close friend.
She was a blessing to all of those whose lives she touched.
She was born in Norfolk and raised in the coal mining towns of Paintsville, Ky., and Mullens, W.Va., where she graduated from Mullens High School in 1965.
She served her country in many different ways, by supporting her husband through his military career, by serving as a civil servant with the Commander Submarine Atlantic Fleet, the Submarine Training Facility DS Pier and by raising two sons who would serve in the Armed Forces.
Bonnie, as she was called by her many friends and family, is survived by her love, her soul mate, her husband, Rodolfo M. Altoveros; her three sons, John Grose, Jerry Grose and Michael Altoveros; her loving daughter and best friend, Leah Zerrad; her mother, Jerry Meade; a sister, Donna Millsaps; and 11 beautiful grandchildren.
Always standing by with a funny story and bringing laughter to our lives, she will be painfully missed.
A funeral will be conducted at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, Monday at 11 a.m. by Pastor Wendell Hodges. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m.
