Originally from New York, Mary James married Asahel Cronk there in 1832. They had at least 4 children: Mary A. (Cronk) Kenney, Martha Jane (Cronk) Shippy (who later remarried Parkhill E. Sherman), Reuben R., and Emma (Cronk) Adkins. The family moved to Wisconsin in the 1850s and settled in Walworth County.
