Master Sergeant Robert Guy Daniel was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, MSG Daniel served our country until March 16th, 1969 in Quang Ngai, South Vietnam. He was 33 years old and was married. Robert died from small arms fire/grenade. His body was recovered. Robert was born on March 21st, 1935 in Bridgeport, Alabama. MSG Daniel is on panel 29W, line 052 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 16 years.
From someone who was there: MSG Bob Guy Daniel and 1LT Francis Gene Seiver were hit within moments of each other. Gene died there south of Ben Het SF camp on 3/16/1969. Bob was mortally wounded the same day but at the max, five minutes later. He died in the 71st Evac hospital same day and maybe an hour later. On the wall in DC and at Fort Bragg you will see 1Lt Francis Eugene Seiver and MSG Robert G. Daniel. It's important to note, I was there, it happened that way. I was injecting Bicarb liquid into a vein on his right ankle when he was pronounced dead. KIA 3/16/1969. He was not wounded on 3/2/1969. He fought like a tiger for 14 more days. He was not wounded until 3/16/1969 and he died that same day, right after Lt Gene was KIA. I swear to god it happened just like that. I called MSG Daniel 'TOP' one day and he quickly corrected me. "Don't call me that". He caught me talking to a "Yard" one day while on a mission and as quickly, said "Keep your mouth shut". I did!!! SF Medic Sgt William R. Curtiss.
Bob Daniel was my Team Sgt in Company "A" 10th SFGA in Lenggries FRG in 1966. Also on our detachment, was another fallen, Special Forces friend James Holt, that was MIA and later changed to KIA, BNR. Bob was not only my Team Sgt, but also my close friend. An excellent instructor and soldier who only thought of his men. Losing someone like him is always a great loss. Rest in Peace my friend. At the 71st Evac hospital we tried cpr for 45 minutes or more but it was too late. More info and pictures upon request. He was a fearless fighter and a great leader. Bill Curtiss.

Shortly afterwards his company commander was killed and he took charge of the unit, leading it through the communists' fusillade until heavy enemy mortar fire threatened to pin his men down. Realizing that his company could be annihilated if the attack stalled because the enemy covered all avenues of escape, Sergeant Daniel single-handedly assaulted a bunker to the front. Although wounded by enemy grenades, he continued to advance. As he hurled grenades into the fortification, killing six communists, he was mortally wounded by small arms fire from another bunker. His men were inspired by his courage and succeeded in overrunning the remaining positions. Master Sergeant Daniel's extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty, at the cost of his life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
