Patrick "Joe" Driscoll was a retired director of software development for Bell telephone from Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey. He earned his bachelor's degree from New York University and his master's degree from Rutgers University. He served four years on a Navy destroyer during the Korean War. He loved the outdoors and had hiked national parks across the United States. He often told his wife, Maureen, that reaching the summit of a mountain was a spiritual experience "like being closer to God." Driscoll and his friend William Cashman were traveling to Yosemite National Park to hike. Besides his wife, whom he married in 1959, the 70-year old Driscoll was also survived by sons Stephen, Patrick and Christopher and daughter Pamela.
