American Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was issued the award on March 6, 1890 for his actions as a 2nd lieutenant, Company E, 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry, US Army, on June 14, 1863, at the 2nd Battle of Winchester, Virginia. His Medal of Honor citation simply reads: "Led his command over the stone wall, where he was wounded."
