US Congressman. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, in 1824, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830 and commenced to practice law in Warrenton, North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina State House of Commons (1830-34), moved to Mobile, Alabama in 1836 and was appointed judge of the Alabama tenth judicial circuit in 1842. In 1851, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-second Congress and served until 1853, when he declined to be a candidate for reelection. He resumed his legal practice and was a Alabama State House of Representatives until his death at age 73 in Mobile, Alabama.
