US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served the state of Alaska in the US House of Representatives from 1967 to 1971. Pollock attended the University of Santa Clara (California) to pursue a career in law; his studies were interrupted while he served in the US Navy during World War II and attained the rank of lieutenant commander (he lost his right arm in a grenade explosion). Following the war, he moved to Alaska and attained his law degree from the University of Houston School of Law. Pollock was elected to the Alaska Territorial Legislature (1953 to 1955), and later to the Alaska State Senate. During his terms in the US Congress, he contributed to legislation which settled Alaska Native land claims. After leaving Congress, Pollock was appointed by President Nixon in 1971 to serve as deputy administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, he remained at that capacity until 1983.
