US Congressman. He graduated from Northwestern University Illinois, in 1872 and was principal of public schools in Washington, Texas, (1872-76). He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Keokuk Iowa, in 1878, then practiced medicine in Fulton County, Illinois and in Wayland, Iowa. In 1882, he moved to California and practiced medicine Merced. He continued the practice of medicine, plus served as a member of the American Academy of Medicine (1894-96), as chairman of the Populist executive committee of Merced County and as a member of the California State executive committee. In 1897, he was elected as a Populist to the Fifty-fifth Congress, serving until 1899. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of medicine in Merced, California, until he retired. He died at the age of 79 in Santa Barbara, California.
