U.S. Congressman. Skilled in the printer’s trade, he was owner-publisher of the Chenango Republican and the Niagara Courier, (1836-42). He was a member of the New York State Assembly, (1842-43) and treasurer of Niagara County, (1849-52). In 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and reelected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was president of the Holly Manufacturing Company in 1859, a member of the New York State Assembly in 1860 and resumed former business pursuits until his death at age 85.
