U.S. Congressman. He graduated from graduated from Hiram College Ohio, from Williams College Massachusetts, in 1868, studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Red Wing, Minnesota. He was a member of the Minnesota State Senate, (1885-87) and elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving (1891-95). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and was a member of the Minnesota State Tax Commission from 1907, until his death at age 67.
