U.S. Congressman. During the Spanish American War, he served as a Private in Company H, 12th Regiment, Minnesota Volunteer Infantry, US Army. After the war, he attended the law department of the University of Minnesota, was admitted to the bar in 1901 and commenced to practice law in St. James, Minnesota. He was St. James City Attorney, (1904-05) and prosecuting attorney of Watonwan County, (1905-09). In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth, Sixty-fifth and Sixty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1921. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed to practice law until his death at age 63.
