U.S. Congressman. Moving with his parents to Georgia, in 1853, he engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits. Upon the readmission of the State of Georgia to representation he was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress, serving (1868-69). After leaving Congress, he was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1877 and was a traveling missionary until his death at age 78.
