US Navy Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Ordinary Seaman in the US Navy. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on the rocks of Block Island, Rhode Island. His citation reads "On board the USS Leyden, 21 January 1903, Bjorkman displayed heroism at the time of the wreck of that vessel."
