Walker Brooke (1813-1869) - Find a Grave Memorial

U.S. Senator. He graduated from the University of Virginia, in 1835, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1838 and commenced to practice law in Lexington, Mississippi. He was a member of the Mississippi State House of Representatives in1848 and a member of the Mississippi State Senate, (1850, 52). In 1852, he was elected as a Whig to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Henry S. Foote, serving until 1853. Not a candidate for reelection, he elected a member of the Provisional Confederate Congress from Mississippi, (1861-62) and appointed a member of the permanent military court of the Confederate States, during the Civil War. He then resumed the practice of law until his death at age 55.
