US Senator. Working for a railroad company, he studied telegraphy and transferred to Nevada, in 1881. There he organized the Bank of Winnemucca, built an opera house in Reno, a theater in Winnemucca and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was also a member of the Nevada State House of Representatives 1891. In 1905, he elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and served until his death at age 52.
