US Navy Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Chief Machinist in the United States Navy. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on the rocks of Block Island, Rhode Island. His citation reads "Serving on board the USS Leyden; for heroism at the time of the wreck of that vessel, 21 January 1903."
