Indian Campaigns Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Sergeant in the US Army in Company A, 1st US Cavalry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at Sycamore Canyon, Arizona on May 23, 1872. His citation reads "Conspicuous gallantry in a charge upon the Tonto Apaches."
