US Congressman. Moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1868, he was successful in mercantile pursuits and was Treasurer of Pottawattamie County, (1875, 77, 79). He was Mayor of Council Bluffs, in 1882, owner of the Council Bluffs Globe, in 1883 and the Council Bluffs Postmaster, (1885-89). In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress, serving until 1893. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was again Postmaster of Council Bluffs, (1904-08) and engaged in railroad contracting until his death at age 69.
