Nebraska Governor. He graduated from Eureka College in 1867 and was a successful farmer in Boone County, Nebraska, when he became active in politics. He helped organize the Farmers Alliance, was a member of the Nebraska House of Representatives in 1884 and served in the Nebraska State Senate on 1890. He also was a member of the State Board of Agriculture and was the first vice president of the Board of Managers in 1895. In 1898, he was elected as a Democratic the 10th Governor of Nebraska, serving until 1901. During his tenure as Governor, he promoted railroad regulations and legislation was sanctioned that established Lincoln as the site for the state fair. After his term he was active in his business affairs, plus was president of the Security Savings and Loan Association, until his death at age 60.
