Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1967 to 1970, 1972 to 1974), he played at the defensive-end and defensive-tackle positions in the American and National Football Leagues with the Denver Broncos. Born Peter Nicholas Duranko, he attended Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Following graduation, he played collegiate football at the University of Notre Dame and experienced a national championship, as a member of the Fighting Irish's 1966 squad, while earning All-American honors. Selected by the Cleveland Browns during the 4th round of the 1966 NFL Draft, he would be signed by Denver of the AFL and mark his league debut in 1967, appearing in 98 career games. At times during his career, he shared the Broncos' defensive line with Lyle Alzado, Dave Costa and Lloyd Voss. Following his football career, Duranko (who received a master's degree from St. Francis College) became an executive in the steel industry. He died following a more than ten-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
