U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Bowling Green, Missouri. He was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving (1851-53) and again elected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving (1855-57). After his term, he resumed the practice of law and served as circuit judge for Marion County, Missouri, (1866-80).
