Samuel Clement Fessenden (1815-1882)

U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Bowdoin College, in 1834, from the Bangor Theological Seminary, in 1837, was ordained and installed as pastor of the Second Congregational Church, Thomaston, Maine, serving (1837-56). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in 1858 and was judge of the Rockland Municipal Court, Maine, until 1861. In 1861, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress, serving until 1863. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was the examiner in the United States Patent Office, (1865-79) and United States consul at St. John, New Brunswick, Maine, (1879-81). Shorty after leaving that office, he died at the age of 67.
