Delaware Governor. He served as Sheriff of Kent County, Delaware and in the Delaware House of Representatives as the Speaker of the House. During the Revolutionary War he was a Brigader General of the Delaware Militia. Served as Delaware's 8th President (Governor) from October 28, 1786 until his death on March 29, 1789. He was the first Governor of Delaware to die in office.
