Virginia Lee was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Cecil and Evelyn Williams. The family moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, Parsons, Kansas, then to Ozark, Alabama for her father's WW2 related work before settling in Gardena, California. She had 3 younger brothers.

She played the piano and organ at church in Gardena, where she met and married the pastor's son and Glad Tidings Bible School graduate Clyde Shields at the young age of 17. She graduated from Gardena high school in 1946 as Virginia Lee Williams Shields. The married couple moved to the Philippines to become missionaries and were there off and on for about 20 years. They raised 4 children together, with the first 3 being born in Ilocos Sur, Philippines.

Virginia returned to California in 1966 with the teenagers. One by one, they all married and gave her grandchildren. She was employed by World Vision and many of her wonderful co-workers attended the funeral. She loved God and her family and is greatly missed by family and friends.
