US Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1786, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1790 and opened a law practice in Machias, Maine, which was then a district of Massachusetts. He served as member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives (1791-98, 1800). In 1803, he was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth Congress, served until 1805 and did not seek reelection due to illness. He died at age 47.
