U.S. Congressman. Born in Lisburn, Ireland, he immigrated to the United States in 1792, with his parents and settled in Virginia. He studied law in Winchester, was a United States tax collector, (1818-19) and a member of the Virginia State House of Delegates, (1822-23). In 1825, he was Twentieth Congresses and as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first and Twenty-second Congresses, serving until 1833. After his term, he was a tavern owner until his death at age 82 in Romney, West Virginia.
