US Congressman. He engaged in mercantile pursuits, the insurance business, banking, served in the Rhode Island State Senate (1862-65) and was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1868. In 1871, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second and Forty-third Congresses, serving until 1875. An unsuccessful for reelection, he was a member of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives (1879-84) and as chairman of the Rhode Island State board of charities and corrections, from 1884 until his death at age 67.
