US Congressman. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he graduated from Augustana College, in 1890 and was a teacher at Martin Luther College Chicago. Returning to school, he graduated from the Kent College of Law in 1898, was admitted to the bar in 1900 and commenced the practice of law in Chicago, Illinois. He was attorney for the Illinois State Board of Health, member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, attorney of Cook County, and master in chancery of the circuit court of Cook County. In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth Congress and to the next six succeeding Congresses, serving until 1933. An candidate for re-nomination, he was a referee in bankruptcy in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and practiced law until his death at age 85 in Chicago, Illinois.
