World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Private, in the 43rd Battalion of the South Australia Infantry. During the attack at Beaufont, North Borneo on May 25, 1945, his unit came under fire from Japanese machine-gun posts and suffered casualties. Private Starcevich, on his own, moved forward assaulting each post in turn, killing five of the enemy and causing the rest to retreat. Later, when the section was again held up, he single-handedly captured two more posts, disposing of seven of the enemy. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
