US Congressman. Born near Liberty, Mississippi, he graduated from Gillsburg Collegiate Institute, in 1890, Mississippi College, in 1893 and taught school in McComb City, Mississippi, (1893-94). He then studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1894 and commenced to practice law in McComb City. He was McComb City attorney in 1895, a member of the Mississippi State House of Representatives, (1900-02) and a delegate to the Democratic Mississippi State conventions in 1912. In 1913, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses and served until his death at age 59 in Washington, D.C.
