World War I Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Worcestershire Regiment, British Army. During actions at Pargny, France, March 22 to April 2, 1918, Lieutenant Colonel Roberts was ordered to hold an extended position in the face of a heavy German offensive. To prevent the Battalion being outflanked, he personally led a counter attacks with soldiers gathered from Battalion Headquarters driving back the enemy and stabilized the position. For courage and fine leadership, he was awarded the Victoria Cross. He later achieved the rank of Major General, in command of the 1st Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, before retiring in December 1939. He died at age 90 in Stanhope Bretby, England.
