CLEVELAND — Leone Barnett, 99, Cleveland, died Oct. 31, 2011, at Villa Maria, Fargo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, with the Rev. Deanna Reikow officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Leone Estelle Moxley Barnett was born Feb. 15, 1912, in Mercer County, to Benjamin Harvey and Edith Clarice (Vrooman) Moxley. She grew up on a homestead on the Missouri River, now under Lake Sakakawea. Leone graduated from Parshall High School in 1931. On May 21, 1939, she married Vernon Valier Barnett in Halliday. They made their home on the Barnett homestead in Mercer County, where they lived with their three children until 1954, when they moved to Mandan where Valier worked at the Standard Oil Refinery. In 1995, she moved to Cleveland, to live with her daughter, Edith.

Leone had an enthusiasm for life and a remarkable openness to trying new things. She loved reading, traveling, gardening, sewing, and knitting, and even began painting watercolors at 94 years old. She was proud of having lived to be "pret' near a hundred."

She is survived by her three children, Edith Hammond, Cleveland, Melvin (Shirley) Barnett, Bismarck, and Sharon (Jim) Geyer, Horace; five grandchildren, Goldie Ingstad, Wendy (Greg) Leingang, Ward (Michele) Barnett, James (Josephine) Geyer, and Emily Geyer; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Leingang, Ross (Deanna) Leingang, Brogan Ingstad, and Alisa and Ronan Barnett; her nephews, Murray Clinton Moxley Jr. and Gary Perkins; her nieces, Joyce (Elmer) Gustafson and Clarice (George) Way; three great-nephews; three great-nieces; six great-grandnephews; two great-grandnieces; one great-great-grandnephew; and one great-great-grandniece.
