U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Franklin College in 1812, studied law at the Litchfield Law School, was admitted to the bar in 1816 and commenced to practice law in Greensboro, Georgia. He was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, (1822-25) and elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-first, Twenty-second and Twenty-third Congresses, serving (1829-35). In 1841, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-seventh Congress, serving until 1843. After his term, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 57.
