U.S. Congressman. Moving to St. Clairsville, Belmont County, Ohio, in 1878, he engaged in mercantile pursuits and served as the first Mayor of St. Clairsville (1807 to 1808). He also was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives (1807 to 1808), associate judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Belmont County (1810 to 1815), and served in the Ohio State Senate (1815 to 1818). In 1823, he was elected as an Adams-Clay Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, serving until 1825. After leaving office, he engaged in the hardware business and in agricultural pursuits until his death.
