Rev. Dr. Daniel Parish Kidder was the son of Sylvester "Selvey" and Mehetabel (Parish) Kidder. He was born South Pembroke (now Darien). Cynthia Harriet (Harris) Kidder was his 1st wife. Cynthia died April 16, 1840. Harriette (Smith) Kidder was his 2nd wife. They were married April 6, 1842. Harriette died March 28, 1915. Rev. Dr. Kidder was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (Western New York/now Upper New York) Conference 1836 F 1840 New Jersey Conference by transfer 1841 Newark Conference at organization and to Rock River Conference by transfer 1858 New Jersey Conference by transfer 1871. He was Professor of Practical Theology at Drew University 1871-1881.

The Chicago Times states that the Rev. D. P. Kidder left an estate of $103,000 and that he bequeathed $1,000 to the Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and the same to the Freedmen's Aid Society.
