Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Union Army. He was awarded the CMOH as a Sergeant in Company C, 7th Michigan Infantry for action on October 27, 1864 at Hatcher's Run, Virginia. His citation reads "Capture of flag of 26th North Carolina Infantry (C.S.A.), while outside his lines far from his comrades."
