Marvel was the daughter of Martin Jellette TAYLOR, an MD, and Stella Irene CARPENTER.

She was born at Janesville, Minnesota on 5 January 1891; died at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital, Downey, California on 1 February 1964; was cremated and buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Glendale, California [Waseca Co., Minn., Births, Bk. B, p. 60, Line 2; Los Angeles Co., Calif., Deaths, District 7025, Cert. 2351; Soc. Sec. Recs., issued Calif.].

Marvel was enumerated with her parents at Janesville, Minnesota, in the 1900 and 1910 US Censuses and the 1905 Minnesota State Census.

She apparently moved to Helena, Montana, by 1914, where she worked as a stenographer.

She married James Ernest Belden there on 1 July 1916.

Belden of Indianapolis, a traveling man for the Brown-Bigelow company of St. Paul, and Miss Marvel Bernice Taylor of this city will be married at 10 o'clock this morning at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Adamson. The ceremony will be performed by the Rev. J. F. McNamee, pastor of the First Baptist church. --Cards were received here this week announcing the marriage of James Ernest Belden and Miss Marvel Bernice Taylor at Helena, Mont., on Saturday July 1st. The bride is a daughter of Mrs. Martin Taylor of Janesville, Minn., widow of the late Dr. Martin Taylor of Portland Prairie. Mr. Belden is a son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Belden of this city. They were enumerated at Chicago, Ward 25, Illinois, in the 1920 US Census.

Marvel and Bill appeared to travel a great deal, possibly for business. In March of 1927 they sailed for a trip in Honolulu. She traveled to England in 1931, the Panama Canal in May 1934, Melbourne, Australia, in June 1936, and to Honolulu in April 1941.

They were enumerated at St. Paul, Minnesota, in the 1930 US Census, where they employed a couple of servants.

They moved to Westwood, California, by 1934, where they were visited by her in-laws in January 1936.

A resident of Southern California, she donated $10 for flood relief in the Mid West and South on 29 January 1937.

At the time of his death, her husband was a "retired advertising executive and co-owner of the Tecopah Mine, one of the richest gold mines in Death Valley" [published in The Los Angeles Times, Saturday 26 February 1938, page 21].

Marvel frequently traveled on business.

After Jame's death Marvel initially resided with her adopted son, James Taylor, at Long Beach, California [Her niece, pers. comm., Sept. 1996].

Marvel was enumerated in the 1940 and 1950 US Censuses at Beverly Hills, California. According to these census records she did not work in 1939 and she reported no income that year. She also reported that she did not work in 1950.
