Alena Josephine Marek died Dec. 25. She was 11.
Alena was born March 11, 2000, in Portland at St Vincents Hospital. She was a sixth grader at St. Cecilia School in Beaverton. In her short life, Alena inspired many people with her fight against a rare childhood cancer; that eventually took her life. Her story was followed by the local community, all across the United States, and even around the world.She was visiting family in Spokane and Pasco at the time of her death.
