Artist. Marie Triepcke is remembered as a Danish painter. She wanted to be a painter and studied at art school. In 1889 she married Severin Kröyer, who was a famous painter with a large circle of friends and wanted to live in grand style. He and Marie spent the winters in Copenhagen and the summers in Skagen. All this meant a lot of work for Marie and eventually she retired from painting. She often stood as a model for her husband and was known as "the beautiful Marie". In 1902 Marie fell in love with the Swedish composer Hugo Alfvén. After divorcing Kröyer, she moved to Sweden to live with Alfvén, remaining there until her death in 1940. Of later years, her paintings have attracted attention and some exhibitions have been arranged in Denmark. In 1999 a biography was published in Denmark: "Balladen om Marie" by Tonni Arnold.
