Henry (Hank) Stevens Embree was born in 1908 the youngest of two children (Bill Embree born 1899) to JW and Carrie Stevens Embree. He grew up on the South Shore of Chicago. He attended Dartmouth College and graduated in 1930 Phi Beta Kappa. He would marry his high school sweetheart, Ruth Borden that same year. He was Board Chairman of Citrus Products Company (makers of Kist, Green River and Chocolate Soldier Beverages) and Treasurer of the Rittenhouse and Embree Lumber Co. He also served as Lieutenant Commander of the US Navy Reserve during WW II from 1942 to 1945.
