U.S. Congressman. He was a successful dealer of leaf tobacco and a member of the City of Dayton, Ohio, board of police commissioners, (1885-87). In 1896, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fifth and Fifty-sixth Congresses, serving until 1901. After leaving Congress, he resumed his former occupation until his death at age 74.
